- 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100g) sugar
- 7g (1 packet) active dry yeast or 25g fresh yeast
- 2/3 cup (150ml) warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (100g) unsalted butter, softened
- Zest of 1 orange and 1 lemon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp orange blossom water (optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt
For Decoration:
- Candied fruits (oranges, cherries, etc.)
- Sugar pearls or granulated sugar
- Sliced almonds (optional)
- 1 egg (beaten for glaze)
Optional Filling:
- Whipped cream, pastry cream, or marzipan
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add eggs, butter, orange and lemon zest, vanilla, orange blossom water, and the yeast mixture.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until soft and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
2. Shape and Decorate
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a ring. Place it on a lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let it rise again for 45 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
